Creating maps, especially the terrain, is like art. For me, at least. Laugh it up, but you can't deny that a realistic looking world in game really draws you in. Most of my time spent on Warcraft 3 was fiddling around in the map editor, teaching myself through trial and error how to make great looking forests, deserts, pathways, rivers, etc.
I'm not great with triggers, in fact, I'm quite bad. My talent lies in creating some pretty good looking terrain, that doesn't hinder gameplay. This can be challenging sometimes because you can be so tempted to overload on doodads detailing a town, for example. You always have to remember to keep pathing open so units and heroes don't get stuck and run around like idiots because the pathing is messed up.
Once I get my eager hands onto this Galaxy Editor, I'll start posting tutorials for (do I even have any readers?) well, regardless, It's fun for me to write things out so they'll be there. The tutorials will be for specific things like creating realistic rivers, tiling, doodad placement, etc, to make your maps more pleasing to the players eye.
For now I will go play some Starcraft 2 ladder and get rushed, and die, because I'm too busy day dreaming of the galaxy editor.
~Cheers

It's nigh impossible to comment on your blog. There's a post and a preview button, and they both send you to a preview because it's set to verify, but the verify is being pushed off visible area in the preview window. I'm running 1600x1200 so it's not my resolution muxing it up either, might be google chrome?
Anyways, I commented how I'm bad with terrain and blizz mapping becomes more and more of a team effort thing. If you need someone who's all about the programming catch me online. My SC2 realid (and email) is + _metully@hotmail.com
hmm, blogspot doesnt like me inserting null html characters. m_metully
Oh and I can't figure out how to add your blog onto my RSS feeder. http://optional-rob.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default is throwing it through a loop.
It seems as though it may be google chrome my friend. I have no issues posting a comment. Try Firefox?
